After a stay at London's Ham Yard Hotel, Amercians Jeffrey and Pam were so taken with the hotel's iconic modern-British interior, they decided upon returning home that they wanted to recreate their own bedroom in the same style as a lasting reminder of their visit.
Ham Yard features a staggering 91 individually designed bedrooms and suites by the award-winning, world-renowned Kit Kemp. Making full use of our remote interior design service, our talented interior designer Hannah thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to transform their blank canvas with her own take on Kit Kemp's trademark fun and innovative mix of colour, pattern and texture as well as signature upholstered headboards.
Everything – from the bespoke statement headboard, chairs and cushions to the lampshades and stool – was made bespoke in Britain before being shipped out to the US. We are thrilled to share our design scheme and these stunning photographs showcasing the completed interior.
"I hope you guys can get a good idea of how amazing this room looks. And Hannah put all this together remotely! We're still moving things around a bit and have add a couple more things on the walls, but we feel we're back at the Ham Yard. We probably should put a rug down at some point as you recommended, but for now this is easier with the dogs. We can't possibly thank you enough for all your help and expertise. Please know how much we love the final result"

At the Firmdale Group's Ham Yard Hotel, it is the headboards that unapologetically take centre stage in each bedroom suite. With this in mind, Hannah's focal point for her design is a showstopping headboard. It creates a sense of drama and grandeur. The bold pattern and colours of the Kit Kemp fabric draw the eye so that it is the piéce de résistance of the scheme. Suprisingly, the sheer scale of this statement headboard makes the room not only feel luxurious, but also gives the illusion of a taller ceiling height and even more spaciousness.
No bed is complete without decorative bespoke cushions in varying sizes to provide comfortable head support while unwinding with a good book. From a designer's perspective, it is the perfect opportunity for Hannah to unleash her artistic side, utilising her extensive knowledge of fabrics, her skill at choosing colour combinations as well as mixing patterns and texture to add interest, which completely elevate the space.
The footstool may look traditional at first glance, but the bamboo legs and the bright yellow fabric with its modern pattern are considered design decisions to tie in with the existing furniture and further enhance the scheme's jazzy edge. The bedside tables and lampshades cleverly match the green in the gorgeous choice of Kit Kemp's uplifting uphostery fabric on F&P's bespoke armchairs in the bay window area. To achieve this cohesion, both the green bedside tables and the yellow bobbin-leg table have been spray-painted in their respective matching colours using Little Greene paints. The cosy seating area with the occasional table now creates such an inviting and intimate space to relax in within this large space.
The result is joyful and unique, a mood-enhancing place to wake up in, with everything carefully chosen to create balance in terms of size, colour and pattern while staying true to the Ham Yard Hotel-inspired feel.
