Mixing Patterns In a Modern Country Sitting Room

16th September 2021

A masterclass on mixing patterns, we were instantly drawn in to this modern country sitting room. Not afraid of colour, the curtains in this room feature a diverse colour spectrum, allowing such a variety of colours to be picked out as highlights around the rest of the room. Keeping the walls in a warm neutral has created a cozy and inviting environment perfect for relaxing or entertaining.

Walls and Curtains

This rooms scheme has been brought to life by the multicoloured curtains. Shalimar Fabric is a sumptous mixture of colours and these full length, interlined curtains are finished perfectly with a smart, double pinched pleat heading. Adding a contrast leading edge to the curtains in a plain yellow ties the curtains in nicely with the sofas.

An interesting choice of paint, too light or too dark and the contrast between the colours in the room could be distracting. Roman Plaster is a warm earthy tone which creates just the right environment that is both fun and inviting.

Furniture

Ideal for upholstery, Lost and Found fabric is double width, meaning less joins! The mustard yellow is enhanced by the pop of hot pink in the piping cord which also accentuates the curves of the sofa and armchairs. You can mix and match the sofas and chairs, as seen in this room, or to keep the space perfectly symmetrical, you may wish to have two matching sofas.

This room features two types of stools which are both practical and stylish. These smart cylinder poufs, upholstered in Chubby Check fabric offer a pop of colour either side of the fireplace, whilst also creating additional seating for entertaining.

This Ottoman is an ideal accessory for a modern country sitting room. It can be upholstered (inside & out) in a fabric of your choice, we have chosen Ticking 01 Stripe and it would look great lined in a bright colour. An Ottoman is a very practical choice, this offers storage, seating and when centred in the room it can be also used as a coffee table.

Cushions and Lighting

Delphini fabric is ideal for cushions. It's multicolours sit perfectly with the curtains plus choose a statement Ombre brush fringe for added drama!

As a finishing touch to add symmetry in the room, this stunning green porcelain Gourd Lamp would perfectly partner with a gathered empire lampshade in black.
