At the heart of the charity’s mission is its dedicated team of paediatric community nurses, who play a crucial role in empowering parents to care for their seriously ill child. They provide expert guidance on administering medications, managing gastric tubes, changing dressings and handling other complex medical needs. Beyond the physical care, these nurses offer reassurance and emotional support from the moment of diagnosis, helping families navigate the challenges ahead.
Understanding that a child’s illness affects the entire family, The Sussex Snowdrop Trust also offers emotional and psychological support through its dedicated Snowdrop Counsellors. These professionals provide a safe space for children, siblings, parents and extended family members to express their feelings, process their experiences and find strength during difficult times. Additionally, the trust offers financial assistance to families who may be struggling with the added costs that come with caring for a seriously ill child, alleviating some of the financial burden and stress.
The symbol of the snowdrop was chosen by the charity’s founders as it represents hope and consolation in the language of flowers. These delicate yet resilient blooms push through the harshest winter conditions, emerging in spring as a sign of renewal and strength. Similarly, the families supported by the trust demonstrate incredible courage and endurance in the face of adversity, with the Care-at-Home Team walking beside them throughout their journey.
To sustain this invaluable service, The Sussex Snowdrop Trust must raise £500,000 annually. These funds are crucial in maintaining the highly skilled Care-at-Home Team, ensuring that families on the Snowdrop Pathway receive the nursing and counselling they so desperately need.
Currently, the trust is providing support to more than 60 families within its catchment area. In response to growing needs, the trustees have recently approved funding for an additional paediatric nurse at Fordwater School, a specialist institution catering to children aged 2–19 with complex educational and medical needs. This addition has had a profoundly positive impact, further strengthening the school’s ability to provide high-quality care and support to its pupils.
With every donation and act of kindness, The Sussex Snowdrop Trust continues to make a meaningful difference in the lives of children with life-threatening illnesses and their families, offering them hope, care and unwavering support when they need it most.
As part of our 25th anniversary celebrations, the F&P Interiors team has chosen The Snowdrop Trust as our charity partner for 2025. Throughout the year, we will be raising both funds and awareness for this incredible organisation, and we hope you’ll join us in supporting their vital work.
On average, the trust spends £700 per week to help families cover petrol costs for hospital trips needed for their child’s treatment. Our goal at F&P Interiors is to raise £3,150 to cover an entire month’s worth of these essential travel expenses.
To achieve this, we will be hosting a variety of fundraising events throughout the year, along with donating a percentage of profits from our remnants sale.
