Interior Design Trends We Expect to See This Year

18th January 2024

As we step into a new year, it's the perfect time to refresh our living spaces, and so we look to which trends we expect to see in 2024. Asking four industry experts to share their predictions, we're expecting pattern clashes, juxtaposition, a fondness for traditional and earthy tones. Coupled with a rise in restoring timeless pieces that endure the ever-changing trends, we're anticipating homes that feel warm, welcoming, and personalized to those who live there.

Elegant Detailing & Softness...

Whilst planning a brand new interior scheme for her very own bedroom, we chatted to F&P Interiors Director, Emma, about which home decor trends she predicts will be in demand this year...

"I am forecasting for a renewed fondness for traditional designs and expect to see more Toile de Jouy motifs and a return to finer florals. I also anticipate a move to more elegant detailing. With gathered valances and skirts, and softer pelmets already in demand, we're noticing a move towards a much softer, more gentle interior look that feels welcoming and comfortable."

Juxtaposition & Art Deco Styles...

Along with launching their brand new Stitch & Block collection exclusively with F&P Interiors, Helen Sanderson, Design Director at Ian Sanderson shares what trends she expects we will be enjoying...

“Embracing pattern in all it’s different scales, colours and textures, we predict 2024 holds a move towards Art Deco styles in pattern, with stylised forms of design and even abstract geometrics. It is the juxta positioning of pattern; placing of one, perhaps traditionally inspired design with another more contemporary one, that makes these new trends exciting!

It’s also heartening to see more fabric being used in interiors now, particularly with younger generations discovering things like fabric walling, pelmets and even tented ceilings! But Austrian blinds may be a step too far!”

Pattern Clashes & Cherished Antiques...

Holly Hardy, founder and director at Sourced by Holly made time between the arrival of her beautiful baby and sourcing one-of-a-kind homewares from around the globe, to share her trend predictions for 2024...

"I predict to continue the celebration of eclecticism and maximalist styles. Embrace the charm of blending cherished antique pieces from your family's history with fresh fabrics and prints. Picture revamping your grandmother's old chair with a vibrant, modern upholstery. I expect the popularity of pattern clashes and bold colours to get even stronger.

What's fantastic about this trend is its affordability – explore the joy of sourcing second-hand vintage furniture at flea markets and antique fairs on weekends. You might even stumble upon old curtains or loose fabrics perfect for reupholstering your discoveries!"

Earthy Terracotta’s & Bold Peaches

Our F&P resident Interior Designer, Hannah, took a moment out of her busy schedule designing beautiful interiors for our customers home, to share what colour she predicts will be popular this year...

"I believe we will see a continuation of deeper, earthy, tones being used as backdrops in the home, and I have noticed this clay-like pink appearing in many new fabrics and wallpapers. Fantastic for forming a focal point of interest within a room, this colour creates warm and atmospheric spaces that foster joy and vibrancy.

An easy to live with hue, many leading design houses and paint companies have noted that wellbeing in the home is at the forefront of homeowners’ minds and have responded by elevating neutrals from the traditional beiges to these bolder terracotta’s and peaches. Reflecting tones found naturally, this colour gives a sense of calm and can be paired well with deep olive greens and blues."
