1. Hypoallergenic

Wool is considered by the medical profession to be hypoallergenic. It is resistant to bacteria, mould and mildew that can trigger allergic reactions in people.

2. Flame-retardant

Its high nitrogen and water content makes wool a naturally fire retardant fibre which is hard to ignite. As well as this, wool does not melt, drip or emit fumes. This means that fixed or domestic upholstery does not need to be FR treated if it is 100% wool. This saves both time and money.

3. Energy Efficient

Wool has good insulation properties and helps to reduce heat transfer through floors, walls, and windows. This makes it an ideal choice for curtains, rugs, and carpets.

4. Hard-wearing

Wool is well-known for being strong and resilient. Wool fibre can be bent 20,000 times without breaking and still have the power to recover. The durability of 100% wool fabric makes it a popular choice for upholstery, especially in commercial properties.

5. Eco-friendly

There's significantly less energy used during wool processing compared with manufacturing man-made fibres. Wool production produces lower carbon dioxide emissions and therefore has a low carbon impact on the earth and helps to restore a much healthier environment.

Many wools also have a natural coating on their surface which repels liquid, giving you time to mop up any spills that may occur. Most high quality upholstery wools will have a soft handle, however cashmere blends in particular are the softest, making them ideal for cushions and throws.

Wool is also an excellent material for curtains due to its crease-resistant properties and the high levels of UV protection and insulation that it offers. It drapes beautifully and comes in heavy and lightweight variations so you can achieve the perfect look for your space.

Pattern and Colour

Patterned wools such as plaids, tartans, and tweeds work especially well in traditional schemes to create a comfortable and cocooning look. Mix large and small scale designs in warm shades such as redgreen, and brown for classic English country style.

For a more contemporary look, think bright and bold. Mix plain wools with simple patterned ones such as stripes and herringbones. Moreover, don't be scared to use striking colours such as yellowpink, and blue for dramatic effect.
