An Indonesian dyeing technique that involves binding sections of thread to resist the dye, once woven together they create striking patterns that are full of colour and movement. With a characteristic blurriness due to the hand-crafted nature of lining up the yarns, our collection of ikat fabrics emulate this distinctive style. Picture striking curtains, large-scale feature upholstery and charming motifs that look wonderful on cushions, we have ikats in every shade and size and have chosen a few of our favourites to inspire you...
A beautiful, rich, cream printed linen, featuring a mediterranean inspired ikat in russet and teal. Painted by talented textile designer Claire Hayward, this bold design is based on a black and white photograph found in a woven Greek textile. Now filled with colour and named after the Benaki museum in Athens where the original is stored, this ikat fabric is one of our most popular designs.
"I love the painterly style of this ikat. It really reflects the classic Lewis & Wood colour palette, and coordinates beautifully with a range of plain cottons and velvets. I have seen this used in a formal dining area, which I really liked as it pulled all the autumnal colours in from the outside scenery. A great design to create warmth and add character in a large space." Rose, Interior Stylist
A striking linen fabric with a beautiful ikat design. Printed in earthy reds, blues, greys, and browns, it instantly adds movement and a punch of colour to an interior scheme.
"I love the painterly effect of this ikat. Printed on a lightweight linen that hangs beautifully, it gives it a smart but relaxed look. This red and blue colourway is very much on trend at the moment and will make stunning sitting room curtains." Emma, F&P Interiors Director
Inspired by Persian carpets with antique characteristics, this hand-printed design features neutrals medallions with green, yellow, brown, and red accents, on a duck egg blue base.
"I really like the colours featured in this beautiful ikat design as although the are muted, they feel light and fresh. I think the busy pattern would lend well to a window dressing and I would love to have it made up into a roman blind for my kitchen" Sandra, Orders Manager
A beautiful pure cotton cloth featuring an ikat stripe printed in cardinal red and charcoal grey, with touches of tangerine on a light beige ground. Perfect for both soft furnishings and occasional upholstery, this design will make for a striking centre piece in a room.
"I chose this ikat as it offers a hand printed artisan feel, at a keener price than many similar fabrics; good for those looking for a more price conscious solution. I’d use it railroaded (turned on its side with the stripes horizontal) on roman blinds in a study with a bobble or tassel trim detail along the bottom edge." Sam, Made to Measure
A blue ikat linen fabric with a large pattern on an off white base cloth. The dark colour balances the size of the print making it perfect for using on sofas and full-length curtains.
"I loved this ikat design as soon as I saw it as the scale adds such drama to a room! Magnificent as floor length curtains, unfortunately my house does not enjoy the ceiling height to carry such a large design, so instead I'd use it on a statement footstool." Alice, Digital Marketing
A stylish woven upholstery fabric featuring a block print ikat design in red, orange and green. A popular fabric by Kit Kemp, this design comes in four attractive colourways.
"I chose this modern ikat design as it's bright, cheerful and reflects my personality. I would use it in my main bedroom as it would stand out beautifully against the neutral backdrop. It is the brightest room in the house so could take such a dominant design." Sue, Finance Manager
